Guide to Choosing A Wakeboard

An Introduction to Selecting Your Own Wakeboard

What is wakeboard? It is a board that is made of lightweight plastic and fiber and is used to surf the wake that is made by a motorboat. You are towed by the speedboat with the help of a long wire and this gives you the mandatory velocity to surf the wake. You can skim the water and perform tricks on the turbulence created by the motor boat.

On the other hand, if you choose too large a wakeboard, you can find it very difficult to control the board and surf properly. Further, just skimming the surface of the water is not the final objective of this sport. Performing tricks and having plenty of fun is the purpose of this sport. If you select too large a wakeboard, you may find it terribly hard to perform tricks when surfing.

Further, the form of the wakeboard matters a lot. Some boards have a round curvature at the end, while others have a square and sharp curvature. This affects your capability to perform tricks when surfing on your wakeboard. The rocker of the board, which is the curve of the board, has a big effect on your surfing. Some boards have a practically non existent curve while others have a sharp curve which needs a load more ability to handle.

Your choice of wakeboard should also depend on your ability and experience. If you’ve been wakeboarding for a few years, you can select a board that requires a lot of concentration and strength. More often than not, such wakeboard help you perform many troublesome tricks and maneuvers very easily. A big board will soften the impact of the board when it hits the water. However, it is going to be slow to respond to your movements. You can still choose a wakeboard if you are assured of your ability to manage the same and perform tricks on the same. If not, then you should select a narrow and smaller board.

Every wakeboard has bindings attached to it. Bindings are of different types. Their basic purpose is to keep the surfer attached to the board. It is next to impossible to perform flips, swivels and other such tricks on your board if you don’t have bindings to keep you attached to the board.

You should select the bindings depending on whether you shall be the only person to use the board or not. If yes, then you can permanently fix the bindings as OK for your feet. If not, then you must select flexible bindings which can be altered to fit different surfers.

Learn Wakeboard Bindings

Everything you wished to know about Wakeboard Bindings

Wakeboard Bindings are critical accessories needed for the sport. They are the most important pieces of accessories you want while wakeboarding as the bindings clutch the rider’s feet to the wakeboard. The quality of the bindings influences the comfort level at the time of wakeboarding. The standard of wakeboard bindings has effects on the pleasure and fervour of the rider while wakeboarding. Wakeboarders take up the challenge of selecting a better pair of bindings since it will give them a particularly snug and cushty feeling while skateboarding.

The type and quality of the bindings is a key issue inspiring the comfort level experienced by the rider on a wakeboarding venture. The wakeboard bindings have curved edges to deal with the toes and feet and support the body bends and flexes. The rider should adjust the bindings properly to speed up the zeals and pleasures of the wakeboarder. The standing up position of the rider on a board is called as position. There are a selection of stances which are directly influenced by the sorts of bindings.

The usual components of wakeboard bindings are Wakeboard hardware, footbed, overlay and underlay and baseplate. The overlay renders firm support to the wakeboard rider’s feet favoring the body movements and stretching while holding the rider’s feet nicely pushing the heel close to the wakeboard. In contrast to this, the underlay lies between the overlay and the feet ; it acts as a preventative sheath from any stimulation caused because of pinches in the feet.

The wakeboard hardware of the bindings is curved in shape. This assists in maintaining the assembled order of the binding materials and supporting the side of the foot. The hardware comprises of bolts that cling resolutely the binding to the wakeboard. The baseplate component of the wakeboard is placed between the binding and the wakeboard and can be fixed and altered to prefer any different positions of stances. There are a number of holes drilled in the baseplate to favor easy changing of positions and angles of the wakeboard bindings.

The wakeboard foot-bed is the cushion like binding material that supports the foot’s bottom, resisting any shock and shielding the rider’s foot. The footbed holds the heel a bit higher than the ball for lessening the force on the rider’s ankles and knees. Most footbed of the wakeboard bindings have ridges beneath the arch and toes to support and hold up the leverage of the toe side’s edge.

Adjustments to the wakeboard bindings can be manufactured by tightening the straps and ties. Problems in changing the wakeboard bindings can be overcome by applying lubricants like binding lube or use of liquid soaps. The bindings may also be changed by taking apart the boots and then loosening or tightening the overlay. However, you need to be aware of the fact that boots are tough to re-assort.

There are dissimilar types of bindings from where you can select. The line up includes Hyperlite, Liquid force, Slingshot etc. The rising recognition of wakeboarding has revealed the imperative role of wakeboard bindings in the sport.

The first steps to wakeboarding

Getting Up on a Wakeboard Video

1. The first step to take up a session on the surface of water or wakeboarding is to watch the sport on television, video or at the event for example Pro Wakeboard Tour.

2. Learn the basic techniques involved in this sport by going along with your friends who wakeboard. Learn from your friend ride and let someone explain the basics to you while you watch. Try a session yourself. Don’t worry about getting wet. Learn from mistakes.

3. Once you are in the water and ready to give wakeboarding a try, single to the boat driver. As the boat begins driving, shift the nose of your board forward and shift your knees to your chest. The resistance the wakeboard against the water will pull you but don’t get up too fast.  Continue on a straight line for a solid amount of time until you feel comfortable riding the wakeboard.  Practice a few small turns to see how the board moves and feels when changing directions in the water

4. As you ride, try doing a few turning stunts so that you get an idea how your edges grip the water. You can also try to ride outside the wash of the wake or over the edge , gradually spead up you pace every time you repeat it.

5. Next it is time to jump the wake.  Take about a 10 foot cut outside the wake, and slowly get on the edge of your wakeboard taking you back into the wake.Make sure you get weight against the back edge of your wakeboard, lift your body in the air off the wake, and try to get use to taking small turns and flips in the air.

6. Simply assume a position with angled knees like in skiing and turn your body a little bit in order to get a feeling for the motion. Then you should attempt to hold the board in order to extend your airtime.

7. Then simply do the combination of the tricks mentioned above: Bunny jump as you hit the wake, then spin, pick off and land while riding backwards or rolling in the air.
